saphenous nerve [sə′fē·nəs ‚nərv]
(neuroscience)
A somatic sensory nerve arising from the femoral nerve and innervating the skin of the medial aspect of the leg, foot, and knee joint.

Cleveland Clinic, performed the first coronary bypass operation using the patient's native saphenous vein as an autograft.
Radiofrequency and laser ablation are alternatives to stripping of the greater saphenous vein (GSV).
In bypass surgery, grafts are taken from the saphenous vein in the patient's thigh and sewn to the coronary arteries to help improve blood flow to the heart, relieve severe chest pain and reduce the risk of heart attacks from blocked arteries.
