Sapunov, Evgenii

    0.01 sec.
Sapunov, Evgenii Nikolaevich

Born Feb. 6 (18), 1887, in the village of Bulantsevo in what is now Babynino Raion, Kaluga Oblast; died Oct. 27 (Nov. 9), 1917. Russian revolutionary. Member of the RSDLP(B) from 1917.

The son of a gardener, Sapunov conducted revolutionary agitation among the peasantry from 1906, carrying out assignments from the Kaluga committee of the RSDLP. He was arrested in 1908 and released under police surveillance. Drafted in 1914, he carried on propaganda among the troops.

After the February revolution of 1917, Sapunov was a member of a regimental committee. In the summer of 1917 he was arrested, sent to the military prison at Dvinsk (now Daugavpils), and then transferred to Butyrka Prison in Moscow together with the other “men of Dvinsk” (arrested soldiers of the Northern Front). In response to the demands of Moscow workers and soldiers, the men of Dvinsk were freed. By order of the Moscow Military Revolutionary Committee, Sapunov came to the defense of the Moscow Soviet at the head of a unit of the men of Dvinsk. Sapunov was killed while fighting the military cadets and was buried on Red Square by the Kremlin Wall.
