Sarangi

an Indian bowed musical instrument. It has three to four melody strings and 11 to 15 sympathetic strings. Various forms of the instrument exist: the most widespread has a wooden body directly evolving into a short neck and a leather soundboard. The melody strings are tuned to a fourth and a fifth; the sympathetic strings are tuned to the diatonic scale.

In February a workshop on Keeping Traditions Alive was also organized in Norway with Pakistani sarangi player Taimur Khan and table player Muhammad Ajmal.
In the international competition, the prize for best feature-length documentary (over 60 minutes) went to India's Sourav Sarangi for "Bilal" (2008), the curious portrait of three-year-old Bilal, a native of Kolkata and his two blind parents.
They played the sarangi (a violin-line instrument), the dholak (the twin faced drum), the Algoza (a couple of bamboo flutes played together), the harmonium, and interspersed them with some soulful singing.
