In east-central NY, north of Albany; organized Feb 7, 1791 from Albany County. Name Origin: Of Indian origin; possibly from Mohawk word meaning 'springs from the hillside', or from Iroquois for 'beaver place.'

Area (sq mi): 843.71 (land 811.84; water 31.87). Pop per sq mi: 264.70.
Pop 2005: 214,859. State rank: 18. Pop change: 2000-20005 7.10%; 1990-2000 10.70%. Pop 2000: 200,635 (White 95.10%; Black or African American 1.40%; Hispanic or Latino 1.40%; Asian 1.00%; Other 1.60%). Foreign born: 3.10%. Median age: 36.90.
Income 2000: per capita $23,945; median household $49,460; Pop below poverty level: 5.70%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $30,649-$31,689.
Unemployment 2004: 3.80%. Change from 2000: 0.80%. Median travel time to work: 25.00 minutes. Working outside county of residence: 50.50%.

    The construction site is located at the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Saratoga County, New York.
    The former Saratoga County man was believed to have been heading east in a 2001 Buick LeSabre with New York plates.
    The Foundry Company will include manufacturing facilities in Dresden, Germany, with plans to expand that site as well as build a state-of-the art facility in Saratoga County, New York.
