Sardur I
king of Urartu in the second half of the ninth century B.C.; son of Lutipris. Sardur I, a contemporary of the Assyrian king Shalmaneser III, is mentioned, as Seduri, in Shalmaneser’s inscriptions about the events of 833 B.C. Sardur I’s own inscriptions, in Assyrian, survive on the wall of a fortress he erected in the city of Tushpa (now Van). Sardur I warred against Assyria and, evidently, greatly strengthened the Kingdom of Urartu. REFERENCEMelikishvili, G. A.
