Sarich, Vincent M. (1934– ) physical anthropologist; born in Chicago, Ill. He was a professor at Stanford University (1967–81) before joining the University of California: Berkeley (1981). His comparative protein studies engendered his controversial evolutionary theory that humans diverged from African apes as recently as four million years ago.
