| On June 18, Israeli Knesset member Yossi Sarid criticized the Shin Bet security service's decision to adopt an Amstaff dog that had killed a 4-year-old girl in Tel Aviv the previous evening, the Al-Bawaba Middle East news Web site reported that day. Hawks like Rubinstein and the centrist Dan Meridor were absent; in their places were Israel's three arch-doves: Peres, Yossi Beilin and Yossi Sarid, who headed the Meretz Party to Barak's Left. Yossi Sarid, who was Israel's education minister, suggested in March 2000 that some of Darwish's poems should be included in the Israeli high school curriculum. |
