Sarykamysh Lakes
a group of bitter lakes in the Turkmen SSR. The lakes are located in the central Sarykamysh Basin at an elevation of 25 to 40 m. The area of the largest lakes is approximately 100 sq km. The lakes are fed by subsurface waters and spring surface runoff; in the summer most of the lakes dry up almost completely. The dry bed of the Dar’ialyk River ends at the Sarykamysh Lakes.
