Sasebo (säsā`bō), city (1990 pop. 244,677), Nagasaki prefecture, W Kyushu, Japan. It is a commercial and fishing port and naval base on the East China Sea.

Sasebo 

a city on the island of Kyushu in Japan, in the central part of Nagasaki Prefecture. Population, 260,000 (1972). A seaport on Sasebo harbor, Sasebo has shipyards. Industries include the production of machine tools, chemicals, glass, ceramics. Sasebo has a naval base. Pearls are cultured in the area.
