Savage River State Forest Location: In Garrett County, generally south of I-68. Facilities: 52 primitive roadside campsites, backpack camping throughout the forest, picnic facilities, bicycle and hiking trails, boat launch, shooting range. Activities: Camping, canoeing, freshwater fishing, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ATV riding. Special Features: Forest is the largest facility in the state forest system. The forest is classified as a mixed hardwood forest, and it preserves a strategic watershed. More than 12,000 acres of the forest have been designated as Wildlands.
