Savara
a people living in the state of Orissa, in India. The Savara number 290,000 (1971 census). Their language is Savara, a member of the Munda family of languages. The Savara religion is Hinduism; various spirits are also worshiped. The Savara are among the most ancient inhabitants of India’s central plateau. They have retained vestiges of communal and clan relations. The principal occupation is farming, but handicrafts are also developed. Food gathering and hunting also have some economic importance.
