Web: www.schoodicbyway.org Description: Traversing an unspoiled region of northeastern Maine, byway passes along villages and waterfronts, several lighthouses, the only mainland portion of Acadia National Park, and close to Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge. It offers views of Cadillac Mountain and Frenchman Bay, fields of blueberry, and wildflowers.
Legth: 29 miles. Start/Endpoint: Begins on US 1 where the Hancock-Sullivan Bridge crosses Taunton Bay. Continues through Sullivan to SR 186 in Gouldsboro, then follows SR 186 through Winter Harbor to the Schoodic Loop Road. After traversing the loop through Acadia National Park, the byway rejoins SR 186 in Birch Harbor and runs east, ending in Prospect Harbor. Time to Allow: 1.5 hours. Designation/Year: National Scenic Byway (2000).
