Acquiring data displayed on screen by capturing the text manually with the copy command or via software. Web pages are constantly being screen scraped in order to save meaningful data for later use. In order to perform scraping automatically, software must be used that is written to recognize specific data. See scraping and screen scraper.

com (Staff) IBM researchers said today they have developed software that uses optical character recognition and screen scraping to identify and cover up confidential data.
When you run up your bird, the spinning fan blades will rub against the screen scraping off fine metal particles that can get ingested into the generator and cause it to fail.
But a Ryanair spokeswoman yesterday said that the airline was "simply trying to prevent the unlawful use of its site" by screen scraping sites.
