seamer
A hand tool used in making sheet-metal joints or seams.

Seamer

a machine for sewing up cloth or paper bags filled with loose material. Seamers are used primarily for bagging flour, sugar, mixed feeds, cement, and chemical products. A card indicating the product grade and date and time of packing is sewn onto each bag. The sewing head, together with its electric motor, can move vertically to adjust its position with regard to the height of the bags to be sewn up (600–1,050 mm). Some seamers are equipped with a single electric motor that drives both the sewing head and the conveyor. These machines use a mechanism that transmits rotation from the conveyor to the sewing head. However, the use of two separate electric motors is more convenient. Seamers can process up to 500 bags per hour.
