Sears, Minnie Earl

Sears, Minnie Earl (1873–1933) cataloguer, bibliographer; born in Lafayette, Ind. She had a long career as a cataloguer at Bryn Mawr College (1903–07), the University of Minnesota (1909–14), and the New York Public Library (1914–20), and then in 1923 she joined the H. W. Wilson Company and published her List of Subject Headings for Small Libraries. In recognition of her contribution, the sixth edition was retitled the Sears List of Subject Headings, and it remains in widespread use. She also edited the American Library Association's Standard Catalog for Public Libraries (1927–33) and the second edition of the Standard Catalog for High School Libraries (1932). From 1927 to 1931 she taught at the Columbia University School of Library Service.
