LANCASTER -- California Highway Patrol officials are promising to crack down on motorists who speed, drive while drunk or don't wear seat belts.
What's even more scary is the statistics also suggest that pickup occupants who do not wear seat belts are at a greater risk of dying in traffic accidents than unbelted occupants in cars.
After some initial grumbling, most motorists got used to buckling up and are now unlikely to put up much resistance as states move toward primary enforcement, allowing police to pull people over for not wearing seat belts (as opposed to issuing citations after stopping them for other reasons).
