Seattle Slew

(foaled 1974) U.S. Thoroughbred racehorse. He was the first unbeaten racer ever to win the Triple Crown (1977). In his racing career of 17 races, he won 14, was second twice, and fourth once. He was retired to stud in 1978.

Noble Court -- whose sire Doneraile Court is by Seattle Slew (1977) and dam Grey Dawn Grey is by Grindstone (1996) -- was ridden by Corey Nakatani and paid $3.

Lava Man can become the first horse to win the Whittingham (formerly known as the Hollywood Turf Handicap) and the Gold Cup successively since Exceller (1978), who later that year became the only horse to defeat two Triple Crown winners when he beat Seattle Slew and Affirmed in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
