Secaucus (sēkô`kəs), town (1990 pop. 14,061), Hudson co., NE N.J., on the Hackensack River, adjoining Jersey City; inc. 1917. It is a distribution and factory-outlet center and an area of industrial development, especially in the high-technology fields. A variety of products are manufactured there. A farming community into the mid-20th cent., Secaucus benefited economically from the construction of the New Jersey Turnpike (1951) and of the nearby Meadowlands Sports Complex (1970s). The town has also become the site of many corporate headquarters and an important transfer station for N New Jersey passenger trains. How to thank TFD for its existence?
