a kolkhoz, sovkhoz, or other type of farm run by a research organization specializing in the production of high-quality seeds of zonal varieties to be supplied to the farms in the zone or region. Seed farms sow elite or superelite seeds grown in seed nurseries of research organizations; they sell the first- and subsequent-reproduction seeds to kolkhozes and sovkhozes.
