Segner’s Wheel 
a device based on the reactive force of an ejected stream of water. Segner’s wheel was a prototype hydraulic turbine invented by the Hungarian scientist J. A. Segner in 1750. The wheel consists of a vertical feeder tube to which a freely rotating horizontal tube is attached (Figure 1).

The open ends of the horizontal tube are bent back in opposite directions. The liquid exits through the openings, causing the wheel to rotate. Segner’s wheel is used mainly for demonstrations, although it does have applications in watering vegetation.
