Seid Gusein, Mir Kazym Sadygzade 

Born 1887 in Baku; died there Jan. 8, 1938. Soviet Azerbaijani writer.

Seid Gusein worked as a typesetter, proofreader, and editor. His works were first published in 1907. In his prerevolutionary short stories and publicistic articles, Seid Gusein exposed the vices of Azerbaijani society and supported enlightenment. After the October Revolution of 1917, he worked as a teacher and published articles about the development of Soviet literature. He published the short-story collections Toward a New Life (1928), Between Two Lives (1930), and Shirinnaz (1937), which deal with the struggle between the new and the old, women’s liberation, and women’s participation in socialist construction. Seid Gusein’s works played an important role in the development of Azerbaijani literature and criticism.
