a bay of the English Channel, off the northern coast of France. It is 40 km long and 200 km wide at its entrance. Depths in most places range from 20 to 30 m. Tides are semidiurnal, with a range of more than 10 m. The Seine River empties into the bay. Le Havre is the principal port.
