Seining, Deep-Water
(Russian, iamnyi lov), fishing in the deep parts of rivers and other bodies of water. Under certain environmental conditions, such as temperature range and water level, fish of several species, including carp, sheatfish, and sturgeon, gather in deeper parts of rivers and lakes, for example, to winter. They are caught by seines, as well as nets and other equipment. In the major basins of the USSR, deep-water seining is prohibited throughout the year or in autumn and winter.
