Selishche
an urban-type settlement in Selizharovo Raion, Kalinin Oblast, RSFSR. It is located on Lake Volgo (upper Volga), 5 km from the Skakulino railroad station on the Tor-zhok-Soblago line. Selishche has a combine for the production of building materials. Selishche a Russian archaeological term designating the remains of an unfortified settlement. As a rule, selishches present no obvious traces and are therefore difficult to locate. The existence of a selishche may be determined by the presence of a cultural layer and by finding objects owned by inhabitants of the settlement in ancient times. In works of ancient Russian literature the word selishche designated a dwelling, the site of what was once a village, and also a field or plot of arable land located on the site of a former settlement.
