Dolidze, Semen Vissarionovich
Born Jan. 24 (Feb. 6), 1903, in Makharadze. Soviet film director and screenwriter; People’s Artist of the USSR (1965). Member of the CPSU since 1941. Dolidze graduated from the department of history and philology at the University of Tbilisi in 1925. One of his first important works was The Last Crusaders (1934). His films include Dariko (1937), The Shield of Dzhurgai (1944, in collaboration with D. E. Rondeli), The Dragonfly (1954, based on the play Marine by M. G. Baratashvili), Eteri’s Song (\957),Fatima (1959, based on the poem by K. Khetagurov), Last Day, First Day (1960), Paliastomi (1963), A Meeting With the Past (1967), and The City Awakens Early (1968). Dolidze was a deputy to the fourth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the Georgian SSR. He received the State Prize of the USSR (1950) and has been awarded three orders, as well as medals.
