In southwestern corner of GA; organized Jul 8, 1920 from Decatur and Early counties. Name Origin: For the Muskhogean tribe. Name is from Creek 'the separate ones.'

Area (sq mi): 256.56 (land 238.04; water 18.52). Pop per sq mi: 38.80.

In east-central FL, north of Orlando; organized Apr 25, 1913 from Orange County. Name Origin: For the Muskhogean tribe who lived in FL until the end of the Seminole War (1835-42). Remnants of the tribe moved into the Everglades and their descendants are still there. The name may be from Creek ishti semoli 'wild men' or 'separate ones.'

    In central OK, east of Shawnee; organized Nov 16, 1907 from Seminole lands. Name Origin: For the Seminole Indians, a Muskhogean tribe from FL, forced to move to OK at the conclusion of the Seminole War (1835-42). The name is from Creek, probably 'the separate ones.'
