Semivolos, Aleksei Ilich

    0.02 sec.
Semivolos, Aleksei Il’ich

Born Mar. 4 (17), 1912, in the village of Kvitki, in what is now Korsun’-Shevchenkovskii Raion, Cherkassy Oblast. Drill operator and innovator in the USSR iron industry. Member of the CPSU since 1940.

From 1929 to 1941, Semivolos worked on road repair; thereafter he was a mining foreman and drill operator. From 1944 to 1956 he was manager of the Il’ich Mine Offices of the Dzerzhin-skrud Trust. In 1940, Semivolos proposed a method for highspeed, multihole drilling that shortened the period required to prepare a block by a factor of three. He changed the technique of setting up for preparatory driving and was responsible for the multiple-job crew, which consisted of a drill operator, scraper operator, roofing worker, explosives technician, and mechanic. Semivolos’ method has become common in nonferrous metallurgical enterprises.

Semivolos was a deputy to the second, third, and fourth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He received the State Prize of the USSR in 1942. Semivolos has been awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
