Senyavin Islands
a group of islands in the Pacific Ocean, in the eastern Caroline Islands, at 7° N lat.; under US trusteeship. The Senyavin Islands consist of the large volcanic island of Ponape (334 sq km) and the small coral atolls of Ant and Pakin. On Ponape, they reach an elevation of 791 m. They have coconut-palm plantations, bauxite mining, and fishing. Discovered in 1828 by F. P. Litke, the Senyavin Islands are named for D. N. Seniavin (seeSENIAVINS).
