Separate Peace

a peace concluded with the enemy by a member of a coalition of belligerent states without the knowledge or consent of its allies. A separate peace usually precedes the general peace settlement. The term “separate peace” was first used during World War I, when countries of the German coalition made several attempts to conclude a separate peace.
