Serafim Iushkov

Iushkov, Serafim Vladimirovich 

Born May 4, 1888, in the village of Trofimovshchina, in what is now the Mordovian ASSR; died Aug. 14, 1952, in Moscow. Soviet historian of the state and law. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1939); member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR (1946). Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1948).

Iushkov graduated from both the faculty of law and the faculty of history and philology at the University of St. Petersburg in 1912, and he became a privatdocent at the university in 1916. After 1917 he taught at various institutions, including the University of Saratov, Leningrad University, and Moscow University. Beginning in 1938, he also engaged in research. lushkov’s principal works were devoted to the history of the state and law. They included Feudal Relations and Kievan Rus’ (1924), Essays on the History of Feudalism in Kievan Rus’ (1939), and the textbook The History of the State and Law in the USSR (1950).

Iushkov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
