Ţiţeica, Şerban 

Born Mar. 27, 1908, in Bucharest. Rumanian theoretical physicist. Member of the Rumanian Academy (1955); elected vice-president of the academy in 1963.

Ţiţeica graduated from the University of Bucharest in 1929 and became a professor at the university in 1937. In 1956 he was appointed deputy director of the Institute of Atomic Energy in Bucharest. In 1962 and 1963 he served as a vice-director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna. Ţiţeica’s principal works deal with nuclear and particle physics. He has investigated transport phenomena and has made contributions to the theory of the motion of an electron in a magnetic field (1934) and the theory of the positron (1940). Ţiţeica was named a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1966.
