Serebriakova, Galina Iosifovna 

Born Dec. 7 (20), 1905, in Kiev. Soviet Russian writer. Member of the CPSU since 1919. Serebriakova was a participant in the Civil War of 1918–20. She graduated from the department of medicine of Moscow State University in 1925 and published her first work in that same year. She wrote the trilogy Prometheus, consisting of The Youth of Marx (books 1-2, 1933-34), The Stealing of the Fire (1961), and The Summits of Life (1962), and a related novel about F. Engels, The Forerunner (1965). She wrote the scenario for the film A Year Like a Lifetime (1966; with G. Roshal’), which also portrayed the founders of scientific communism. Serebriakova is the author of the collections of essays Nine Women Drawn From the Epoch of the French Revolution (1929) and About Others and Myself (1968) and reminiscences entitled A Pilgrimage Through Bygone Years (1962–63). Her works have been translated into foreign languages. Serebriakova has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
