Buturlin, Sergei Aleksandrovich
Born Sept. 10 (22), 1872; died Jan. 22, 1938. Soviet zoologist and specialist in the field of hunting. Buturlin’s main works are on the systematization of birds, hunting studies, and hunting arms. In studying hunting, Buturlin traveled in the northern parts of Arkhangel’sk Oblast, Kolguev Island, Novaia Zemlia, Kolyma, and Chukchi Peninsula. He assembled a large collection of birds. Buturlin is one of the founders of the Soviet school of hunting studies and contributed greatly to the development of rational bases for hunting.
