(electricity)
A commutator-type motor having armature and field windings in series; characteristics are high starting torque, variation of speed with load, and dangerously high speed on no-load. Also known as series-wound motor.

The Cedar(TM) Series motors are available through the company's DRS Electric Power Technologies unit in Hudson, Massachusetts, and Canopy Technologies, LLC, a Houston, Texas-based company formed by DRS and Elliott Company, Inc.
It will be used by the Penske teams to shuttle their personnel competing in the Indy Racing League (IRL) and NASCAR Nextel Cup Series motor races.
