A pipe linking a building to a main pipe.

1. The section of pipe which connects the public water or gas main to a termination point within a building, such as a meter or trap.
2. In an electric wiring system, the conduit or pipe that contains underground service conductors and extends from the junction with the outside supply wires into the premises of the building served.

The leakage detection team found the leak coming from a communications pipe, which links a water main to a property's service pipe.
A spokeswoman for United Utilities said: "We checked all the gas and service pipes that run to the property and found they were not responsible for what happened.
In the last eight months more than 900 people in West Yorkshire damaged their gas service pipe - and as an average repair costs pounds 325 it is a mistake that does not come cheap.
