Severgin Volcano
an active volcano on Kharimkotan Island, in the northern group of the Kuril Islands. The Severgin, with an elevation of 1,444 m, is composed of andesite lavas and has active solfataras. Eruptions are known to have occurred in 1713, 1846, 1848, 1883, and 1931. In 1933 a strong explosion destroyed a sizable part of the central cone, which had previously reached an elevation of 1,213 m. It was this cone that had been named Severgin Peak by the Russian navigator I. F. Kruzensh-tern in honor of V. M. Severgin. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
