Severo-Muia
a mountain range in Transbaikalia, in the Buriat ASSR, separating the Verkhniaia Angara Depression from the Muia Depression. The length of the range is 350 km, and elevations reach 2,561 m. The range is composed of granites and schists. The peaks and ridges have sharp glacial forms; along the periphery are flat-topped bald mountains. The slopes are covered with larch forests. Above 1,300–1,500 m is a belt of thin forest with thickets of dwarf stone pine; higher up there is mountain tundra. The Severo-Muia Range is intersected by the Baikal-Amur Railroad, which is presently under construction (1977). Want to thank TFD for its existence?
