Severomorsk

Severomorsk 

(until 1951, the settlement of Vaenga), a city under oblast jurisdiction in Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR. Severomorsk is a port on the ice-free Kola Gulf of the Barents Sea. It is located 25 km from Murmansk. Population, 45,700 (1975). The city has a food industry and enterprises serving the fishing industry.

In late 1994 state acceptance trials were successfully completed, and at the end of 1995 the renamed Admiral Kuznetsov deployed from Severomorsk with eight Su-33s (believed to be one prototype and a batch of seven pre-series aircraft) and steamed to the Mediterranean.
