Seydelmann, Karl 

Born Apr. 24, 1793, in Glatz, present-day Klodzko, Poland; died Mar. 17, 1843, in Berlin. German actor.

In 1815, Seydelmann joined the Breslau Theater. From 1820 to 1822 he performed at the Prague German City Theater. He later was an actor in the court theaters in Kassel, Stuttgart, and Berlin. Seydelmann became friendly with the Young Germany group in Berlin. He participated in K. Immermann’s stage experiments, playing the title role in Lessing’s Nathan the Wise in the “model” productions at the Diisseldorf Theater. His most outstanding performances included portrayals of Carlos, Mephistopheles, and Alba in Goethe’s Clavigo, Faust, and Egmont, as well as Richard III, Othello, and lago in Shakespeare’s Richard III and Othello W. Liebknecht claimed that Seydelmann was Marx’ favorite actor.
