SHA-1
(Secure Hash Algorithm-1) A popular one-way hash algorithm used to create digital signatures. SHA was developed by the NIST, and SHA-1 is a revision to the standard released in 1994. SHA-1 is similar to the MD4 and MD5 algorithms developed by Rivest, but it is slightly slower and more secure. See one-way hash function.
