Apkhaidze, Shalva Nikolaevich
Born July 20, 1894, in the village of Dzuknuri, near Kutaisi; died Feb. 21, 1968, in Tbilisi. Soviet Georgian poet. Member of the CPSU from 1945. Apkhaidze graduated from the history department of the University of St. Petersburg in 1917. His first verses were published in 1918. He was a member of the “Blue Horns” group of Georgian symbolists. His first book of verses was issued in 1941. He is the author of the collections Verses (1945, 1949, 1954) and Spring Melodies (1957). Apkhaidze did a great deal of work in the area of literary criticism and artistic translation. He published monographs about People’s Artists of the USSR A. Khorava (1949) and V.
