Shark disk

(1) A family of high-end storage servers from IBM released in the late 1990s. The IBM DS8000 series superseded the Shark line. See ESS.

(2) A removable disk drive from Avatar Peripherals, Inc., Milpitas, CA, designed for the mobile market. Its compact 250MB cartridges never became popular, and the company closed in 1998. See magnetic disk.

Shark disks were aimed at providing compact, lightweight removable storage for the portable market.
