Saifiddinov, Sharofiddin Sanginovich 

Born Aug. 24, 1929, in Khodzhent, now Leninabad. Soviet composer. Member of the CPSU since 1962.

Saifiddinov graduated in 1952 from V. G. Fere’s class in the national division of the Moscow Conservatory, where he was also a student in the department of theory and composition. In 1962 he graduated from B. I. Zeidman’s composition class at the Tashkent Conservatory. From 1960 to 1962 he served as director of the Dushanbe School of Music.

Saifiddinov has composed the operas Pulat and Gul’ru (1957, S. Aini Tadzhik Theater of Opera and Ballet) and Rudaki (1914, S. Aini Tadzhik Theater of Opera and Ballet), the musical comedy Two Beauties and Two Loves (1957, Leninabad Musical Dramatic Theater), the cantata for soprano, baritone, mixed chorus, and symphony orchestra Flourish, Tadzhikistan! (1954), a cantata for chorus and symphony orchestra (1964), the symphonic poem The Golden Kishlak (1962), whose music served as the basis for the ballet film Mountain Voices (1965), and a string quartet (1955). He also wrote music for motion pictures, including The Man Changes His Skin (1960, together with A. I. Pirumov), Zumrad (1962), and Fire Under the Ashes (1967), art and popular songs to texts by Tadzhik poets, and adaptations of Tadzhik folk songs.

In 1962, Saifiddinov became first secretary of the directorship of the Composers’ Union of Tadzhikistan. In 1970 he received the A. Rudaki State Prize of the Tadzhik SSR for his tone poems for voice and symphony orchestra The Road to the Mausoleum and Caution: Stalingrad!, as well as for the songs Ode to the Party and My Republic. Saifiddinov has been awarded two orders.
