Shatsky, Stanislaus

    0.02 sec.
Shatsky, Stanislaus, 1878–1934, Russian educator. After graduating from Moscow Univ. and attending the Moscow Agricultural Institute, Shatsky organized (1905) a colony for workers' children known as "The Settlement," where manual labor, education, and cultural enrichment were pursued side by side. After the Russian Revolution Shatsky became head of the First Public Education Experiment Station, a complex of schools, research institutes, and adult education facilities. The station closed in 1932, when Shatsky's theories lost favor and he was reassigned.
