Shazhere
(also Shadzhara), the name used by some peoples of the East for oral or written historical and genealogical traditions. Knowledge of the origins of a family, clan, tribe, or people and their former clan and tribal organization was supplemented by descriptions of historical events and by documents. The shazhere of the Iurmats, a Bashkir tribe, contain information on the incorporation of the Bashkirs into the Russian empire. Some shazhere were in verse. REFERENCESKononov, A.
