Shcheglov, Aleksandr Sergeevich 

Born Mar. 20, 1916, in the village of Chindianovo, in what is now Dubenki Raion, Mordovian ASSR. Soviet Mordovian writer. Member of the CPSU since 1940.

The son of a peasant, Shcheglov graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Journalism in 1939 and took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45. He was first published in 1932. His works include the poetry collection The Little Patriot (1941), the narrative poem Play, Bandura (1944), the collections Short Stories (1951) and Everybody Is Beautiful Here (1963), the play The Komsomol Card (1950), and poems for children. His main themes are the heroism of the people during the Great Patriotic War and the comtemporary life of the Mordovian village.

Shcheglov was editor in chief of the journal Siatko from 1967 to 1971. His works have been translated into several languages of the USSR. Shcheglov has been awarded the Order of the Red Star and various medals.
