The SH4-MPU is based on the popular SHcompact RISC instruction set and is the only licensable 32-bit CPU technology to offer an instruction set that is entirely 16-bit encoded.
NET kernel and eMbedded Visual C++ have been written to take full advantage of the SH-5 architecture by supporting both SHcompact and SHmedia mode, providing programmers with the flexibility to optimize code as appropriate for small size or high performance.
SHcompact The SHcompact mode is a complete, rich 16-bit encoded fixed length instruction set that is compatible with previous generations of the SuperH architecture allowing legacy code to run on the SH-5 core.
