shear thinning [′shir ‚thinĀ·iŋ]
(fluid mechanics)
Viscosity reduction of non-Newtonian fluids (for example, polymers and their solutions, most slurries and suspensions, lube oils with viscosity-index improvers) that undergo viscosity reductions under conditions of shear stress (that is, viscometric flow).

The disagreement increases with increase of shear thinning (decrease of the n-exponent).
The shear thinning behavior was calculated using logarithmic regression of the complex viscosity and the shear rate to determine the parameters of the Ostwald-de Waele power-law model, as described earlier.
The initial extensional-flow mixing causes shear thinning of the melt so it can be processed at lower temperatures.
