Shearing Shed
a structure equipped for the mechanized shearing of sheep. A distinction is drawn between stationary shearing sheds, to which the sheep are driven for shearing, and mobile sheds, which are transported to the place where the sheep are kept and pastured. The size of a shearing shed and the type of equipment provided for it depend on the number of animals to be sheared. A stationary shed has separate areas for shearing the sheep and packing the wool. There also are pens for unsheared and sheared sheep. The work areas have electric lighting. A mobile shearing shed situated in the pasture consists of an awning made of local materials (lumber, reed), which protects against the sun and rain. The shearing area, packing area, and animal pens are separated not by walls but by ropes strung on poles. The layout of the equipment is the same as in a stationary shed.
