Name Origin: For the Sheboygan River, from an Algonquian word whose meaning is unclear: possibly either 'reed like,' 'something that pierces,' or 'thundering under the ground.' Area (sq mi): 1270.97 (land 513.63; water 757.34). Pop per sq mi: 223.10. Pop 2005: 114,610. State rank: 12. Pop change: 2000-20005 1.70%; 1990-2000 8.40%. Pop 2000: 112,646 (White 91.10%; Black or African American 1.10%; Hispanic or Latino 3.40%; Asian 3.30%; Other 3.00%). Foreign born: 4.30%. Median age: 36.80.
